Behavior of Asperger Syndrome
Often considered to be a version of autism, Asperger Syndrome is actually a psychiatric disorder that tends to strike young teenagers. One of the most common signs of this disorder is the amount of fractured social relationships that happen as a result of the behavior people show when suffering from Asperger Syndrome. Typically, there are not problems with language development or in communicating with people. The problem comes in because of their restricted interest in interacting with others.
The most common pattern seen in people with Asperger Syndrome is their insensitivity and lack of understanding. It is hard for them to interact normally with people and therefore, they usually don’t have many friends. Something else that is noticed in these people is that they don’t react with the appropriate urgency to situations.
Although people with Asperger Syndrome have a basic understanding of human emotions, they tend to have trouble expressing their own emotions. Sometimes this causes them to appear insensitive to other people. They have trouble talking about their interests with others or even talking about another person’s interest. Making eye contact is also something that may be difficult for someone with this disorder to do.
A person suffering from Asperger Syndrome loves to talk about themselves but it will quickly turn into a one sided conversation with that person doing all the talking. They may actually just keep talking non-stop and not even realize that the person they are talking to is not responding. Not that it would really matter to them if they DID notice. That is part of the disorder.
Something else that is quite noticeable is the lack of understanding when it comes to humor and sarcasm. They will just not get it and just might become puzzled and confused in the presence of either of these emotions.
If you know someone who suffers from Asperger Syndrome, do what you can to help them be a part of the world. They need your understanding and help and do not need to be made fun of.
