Pancreas Risks Increased By Diabetes Drugs

New evidence is suggesting that the risk of pancreatitis and other problems may be increased by a group of recently approved diabetes drugs. The Food and Drug Administration is looking into the discovery that samples of pancreas tissue taken from a small number of patients showed inflammation and cellular changes that often precede cancer. Diabetes Risk Could Increase by 22% from Sugary Drinks

Consuming only one can per day of sugar-laced drinks increases a person’s risk by more than 20% of developing diabetes, according to a European large-scale study published this week. Data was used from more than 350,000 people living in eight countries in Europe. Johnson & Johnson Receives FDA Approval for Diabetes Drug

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the Johnson & Johnson drug Invokana, following data that showed it had been effective in reducing the blood sugar in patients who have Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common type of the disease. Diabetes Drug Sees Positive Results in Tests

Eli Lilly said on Monday a diabetes treatment it is testing with Boehringer a German drug maker proved to be more effective than just a placebo in the preliminary results from four late-stage trials.
