Unless you suffer from asthma, you may not understand just how serious a problem can be. It can be quite debilitating when an attack occurs. It can even become deadly if the attack is severe enough and cannot be treated quickly enough. However, the best thing to do is try to prevent an attack rather than stop one once it has begun. One of the ways to do this is to eat the right food. Nutrition is quite important but there are some foods that the asthmatics just need to avoid for their own good health.
You should not eat dairy products every day as that can bring about a sudden attack. These include milk, ice cream, yogurt and anything else that contains milk. Eating dairy products frequently can cause coughing and wheezing in the asthmatic.
Eggs, citrus foods, wheat and soy products can cause more asthma attacks. Eggs are the first thing you should eliminate from your diet if you have asthma. Citrus fruits are sometimes quite hairy and may bring on an attack.
Try to limit your intake of processed foods. If you cannot give them up totally, at least limit the amount you eat. These foods tend to aggravate asthma and may well trigger a full blown attack. Processed foods have a lot of additives and artificial flavoring that can increase allergic reactions.
Nuts and asthma do not mix well so you may want to eliminate them from your diet. Frequently eating nuts can bring on an asthma attack and they can also make your asthma more serious.
Finally, stay away from fast food chains. There has been research conducted that shows fast food seems to trigger an attack twice as often as not eating from fast food places. This seems to especially affect children.
Do not risk your life just to temporarily enjoy the taste of some food that should be forbidden to you. It’s just not worth it in the end.
