There has always been a wrong assumption from age old days that fruits for diabetic patients should not have fruits. People are most often restricted to take even fresh fruits when they are diagnosed as diabetic. Most diabetic patients can consume the same food as that of any common man without it, with certain conditions like how much and how often also apply. Diabetic patients can always have fruits which are fibrous like watermelon, papaya, plums, strawberries, muskmelon etc. These fruits not only help in easy digestion but also control sugar levels in your blood by increasing sugar level in your blood gradually. Fresh lime also helps by providing vitamins and minerals to diabetic person. But certainly a person who is diabetic should not consume foods rich in cholesterol and fats.
Eating fresh fruits is not at all harmful, instead if you consume fruit juices, and canned juices then their sugar content is too high which can be harmful to the diabetic patients. Always consume fruits which are more fibrous. Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapes, olives are good for health since they have lot of minerals and vitamins. Although diabetic patients are free to have any fruits, it is good that they avoid mango, custard apple, chikoo, and banana as they have high sugar content. Also avoid eating dry fruits since they have high sugar and fat content. But dried dates are good source of calcium and iron and are many times advisable to consume for gaining more strength in old age.
People with diabetics are advised to consume lot of fresh fruits and vegetables at regular intervals. Spreading your diet accordingly will avoid sudden increase in sugar levels in your body if you are a diabetic patient. Eating lot of fresh fruits and vegetables will increase your metabolism. Fruit can be treated as easiest and perfect snacks. Just remember when you have to eat them, how often you have to eat them because how fast your body sugar level increases depends on when you consume the fruits after meal, or before meal.
