Gum disease belongs to serious infections that can have unfortunate results. It is scientifically proven that it can lead to such health concerns as heart disease, diabetes and other dangerous diseases.
As far as its symptoms are concerned, one can observe gums swelling and growing in size, becoming red in color. They are also likely to bleed. The disease can be accompanied by teeth shifting and emerging of spaces between them.
Successful treatment of gum disease is predetermined by early detection. You should go for a gum (periodontal) disease screening check every year. This examination will help define your periodontal status. In case of gum disease detection, the treatment will be tailored to your particular case and level of infection.
However, it is always better and easier to prevent disease than cure it. For prevention you should make it a habit to keep the teeth and gums clean. Along with brushing your teeth minimum twice a day, you have to floss at least once a day.
Do not forget about visiting your dentist on a regular basis. It is the best way to fight the disease in its early stage when there is no that much damage done. Keep in mind that the only way to overcome gum disease is to resort to medicine.
When you have become a victim of this disease the only chance to prevent its development is to remove plaque and tartar. But this will only help in the early stages. If your situation is rather serious, you will have to refer to periodontist. He is able to restore bone and gum tissue you have lost due to gum disease. There are several options for treatment. One of them is a root planning. This is a non-surgical method that creates a smooth root surface that is easier to keep clean. There are also surgical procedures available.

I couldn’t agree more. It’s better to stay away from periodontal disease than cure it. Prevention cost less too.
