These days the miracle berry could work wonders for diabetics and dieters, especially in New York. It is known that the berry itself comes from West Africa. A French cartographer was a first person who described the miracle berry. In 1725 this person went to West Africa to document their native food particularities. He found some interesting facts concerning the native African diet that exists only in its western part. The diet consisted of few basic foods and nothing sweet, only bread, palm beer, wine and different soups. Everything was utterly sour. In general the miracle berry was used to brighten the taste of food. This berry had magnificent qualities.
The miracle berry is red and ¾ inch to 1 inch long and has an elongated shape. It contains one important component that is called miraculin, in other words, glycoprotein. Miraculin influences on taste only during 30 minutes. In order to experience the effect of miraculin it is possible to take its extract in powder or in a form of a pill. There are even special parties organized for tasting this miracle berry. Generally, one berry is per partygoer. The choice of meals is also great. Everybody can taste many foods and try limes, vinegar, sour pickles, grapefruit, sour pickles and many others. Sometimes foods are not very great. Every time the party is held there is a new choice. It is considered that the miracle berry is completely safe. Though, not many studies were performed in this sphere. Moreover, African people consume these berries for centuries and they are usually surprisingly healthy and do not have any effect of illness. By the way there is one problem with a usage of the miracle berries, i.e. to sweeten extremely acidic food. The acidity was masked but at the same time some people had gastrointestinal problems. Therefore, the use of the miracle berries is quite limited. Be careful!
