Are you a diabetic who loves to travel, but is restricted because of your condition? Well, you do not need to worry any more. Here are a few things you can do that will help you enjoy your traveling without letting diabetes bother you.
Go to your doctor
Before you take a trip somewhere, take a trip to your doctor. Ensure that you have your diabetes in control and you do not need to do any regulating or stabilising. You should go to the doctor at least a month in advance so that you can get enough time even to adjust after getting any immunization shots, if necessary.
Your doctor can also write a letter for you, certifying your condition and also enlisting all the different medications as well as supplies that you need to take with you. This will allow you to pass security checks with ease at the airports.
Another thing that you need to get from your doctor is a prescription. Although you might have syringes, medication and strips enough to last your entire trip, to be prepared is the best way to avoid any unforeseen things such as losing your medications, or your medications being spoilt or your trip lasting longer than planned.
Announce your condition
Do not worry. I am not telling you to go shouting about it. However, you can put on the ID bracelet so that others know about your condition. Besides that, you can even carry small cards telling the same, but in the local languages of where you are visiting.
Be prepared
It is always good to be prepared. Take twice the normal amount of medication. Divide the supplies and medications. Put half of them in the suitcase and other half in some special bag, which you will be carrying with you through the journey. You should select a tough box for keeping these supplies. You should keep your medications in a bag, which is thermally insulated.
Keep some emergency snacks ready
You might have to wait too long before you can have your next meal. Therefore, keep some snacks including cheese, crackers, fruits, and others so that the levels of your blood sugar do not drop down.
Keep your feet comfortable
Your feet will need it, at least when you are traveling. Therefore, wear comfortable shoes in which you can walk easily and even keep a pair of protective shoes for the beach.
Keep checking
When you are traveling, several factors like changing temperatures, time zones can cause the levels of your blood sugar to fluctuate. Therefore, keep checking it so that you can counter it.
With some precautions and care, diabetes cannot prevent you from enjoying your trip.
